Marcia Harvey

Hello everyone

I hope you have been finding our first term of regular newsletter updates informative and interesting. It is a great way for our school community to stay informed about all that is happening in a timelier manner than just once per term.

Term 2 is now coming to a close and it has been very busy for both students and teachers.

For Year 12 students in particular, the end is fast approaching and final assessments and examinations will be here before they know it. The four week holiday provides an opportunity for all students to have some relaxation time away from their studies; for those in Year 12 though, it should also be used to consolidate their learning and for those who are perhaps behind in their studies, to catch up or even revise any areas of their work that they have found difficult.

As many of you are already aware, we will be moving to our new building (some photos can be found towards the end of this newsletter) and will be adopting a new school name from the start of term 3. Teachers have been out visiting students and the preparation for the internal fit out of our new building also continued. Our new name will be The Northern Territory School of Distance Education (NTSDE) and our new location with will be at the Bullocky Point Educational Precinct, Atkins Drive, The Gardens. Our new logo is set out below.

Our New Logo

Teachers have commenced preparations for the move and the actual uplift will occur over the four week break. Teachers will commence work for term 3 in the new building. In order to accommodate the unpacking and settling in at our new home, classes for students will not commence until Thursday 28th July. A separate letter advising you of this has been sent out to all students and parents.

On Friday 29th July, the Minister for Education, The Honourable Peter Chandler, will officially open our new school building at 9:00am. This is sure to be a momentous occasion for our entire school community. It will be of particular significance to our School Council who have worked extremely hard to achieve the development of the new school. A special morning tea will follow the official proceedings from 10:00am. NTSDE parents and students are welcome to attend. If you would like to do so, please contact the school secretary (secretary.ntoec@ntchools.net or 8922 2222) to inform us of this to ensure we are able to provide adequate catering.

Finally, I would like to wish all students and teaching staff, a relaxing and safe holiday break, and I look forward to the commencement of term 3 in our new home at Bullocky Point with our new name - The Northern Territory School of Distance Education.

Health Careers Day

HealthCareersDay HealthCareersDay
HealthCareersDay HealthCareersDay

The Health Careers Day at the Royal Darwin Hospital was a fantastic opportunity which I thoroughly enjoyed. We covered areas like physiotherapy, midwifery, speech pathology, radiology and pharmacy, investigating the inner workings of the different fields and the qualifications required. The interactive activities were the best part and I experienced everything from delivering a baby to taking a leisurely stroll through a giant human ear. I was able to delve into the sheer volume of health careers available and learned about the specific roles in broad fields such as nursing.

I highly recommend this event to all students, whether they are looking at a future in healthcare or are simply curious about the different aspects of the medical industry.
