Principal's Message

Marcia Harvey

Welcome to this edition of the NTSDE Newsletter. As we get closer the end of the year the pace of life at NTSDE is not slowing down.

This term, Leanne Goldsworthy and I have visited a large number of current and potential partner schools to provide information about the way we can support the delivery of senior secondary programs to these schools in 2017. Our travels have taken us to Groote Eylandt, Arnhem Land, Alice Springs and Melville and Tiwi Islands. This has been a valuable exercise and it was a fantastic opportunity for me to personally visit the schools and see firsthand where many of our students undertake their schooling and live. Further Information about our subject offerings can be found via the Subject Handbook on our school website. You can also find more information about how to enrol for 2017 in this edition of the newsletter.

Last week, Bev Wilson and I were delighted to attend the Awards Ceremony for the Chief Ministers Spirit of ANZAC Study Tour for 2017. Olivia Tester, one of our current Year 10 students, was one of six NT Finalists from which three students were chosen to attend. Each student was required to write an essay on 'What is it that keeps the Anzac Spirit alive?' Those who were shortlisted (as Olivia was) then attended an interview process with the judges prior to the final selection of the winners. Although Olivia was not chosen to attend the actual tour in 2017, she is to be congratulated on making to the finals and for her excellent essay writing skills. Well done Olivia!

Year 12 students have almost completed their final exams with the last exam taking place next week. Year 10 and 11 students are now completing their final assessment tasks in the lead up to the end of year. It has been great to see so many students working hard to complete all their work by the due dates.

Next Friday, 25th November, is our annual Graduation Celebration and we have 36 students who will be celebrating the end of their formal schooling with us at a Dinner Presentation at Sky City Casino. We will be providing a feature article on this in our final edition of our newsletter for 2016 in week 9.
