Principal's Message

Marcia Harvey Hello everyone and welcome to our first newsletter for 2017!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and spent the time enjoying the company of family and friends. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all students, parents and partner schools both returning and new.

We also extend a very warm welcome to Mr Paul Anderson. Paul joins the Maths/Science/IT Teaching and Learning Team as our new Physics and Chemistry teacher. Paul brings with him a wealth of experience in teaching Science across all levels and it is great to have such a passionate and motivated teacher join the teaching staff.

As we reach the end of week three, teaching and learning programs are now in full swing. I would encourage all students, parents and partner schools to contact the school if there are any issues or problems with the delivery of the programs students are enrolled in. Leaving the issue unresolved increases the chance of students not being able to meet teaching program requirements.

Further in the newsletter you will see information about the NTSDE School Council AGM. I would like to encourage all dependent student parents to consider taking on a position on School Council for 2017. The commitment is not time consuming and it's vital we have parental input into the running of the school. Please contact reception on 8922 2222 for more information.

We have commenced preparation for our first Residential Program in week 7 and look forward to welcoming the students for the first of these for the year. If you have any questions or queries regarding this or the Stage 2 Science Workshops that are run either side of this, please contact the school reception.

In closing, I would like to congratulate all those students who successfully completed their Northern Territory Certificate of Education in 2016. Overall results were fabulous with 100% of eligible students completing this.

We would also like to congratulate the following students who were presented with awards during the NTBOS Student Awards ceremony that took place in Darwin on the 10th February.

  • Shannon Fuller - Chief Minister's Award - Most Outstanding Stage 2 NTCET Distance Education Student.
  • Bonnie Hunt - Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (NT) Health Education Award.
  • Trish Tipiloura (Xavier Catholic College) - Karmi Sceney Indigenous Remote Excellence and Leadership Award.

It was also wonderful for the Minister for Education to acknowledge NTSDE and its contribution to 22 remote Indigenous students NTCET completion in her address to those present at this event.

We also have 7 students' artwork represented in the 2016 Exit Art Exhibition which is a record number of exhibitors for NTSDE. Congratulations must go to both the students and their teacher, Ms Jenny Hagan. You can read more about their wonderful achievements in this edition of the newsletter.

Finally, I would like to wish all students a successful year and encourage you to set your goals, strive hard to achieve them and seek support from your teachers if you are experiencing any issues or difficulties.

Principal

Exit Art

2016 NT Year 12 Student Exhibition

11 February - 4 June 2017

Exit Art is the annual exhibition of outstanding artwork created by the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training senior students. The exhibition of works by 2016 Year 12 students represents 14 schools from Darwin and regional and remote areas (MAGNT, 2016).

The selected work demonstrates skills in a variety of mediums such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and digital illustrations. The quality of the work produced this year is a testament to the students and the invaluable partnership between the teachers in remote locations, ourselves and those others who have supported them throughout their studies.

Congratulations to the following NTSDE students and artworks selected to be a part of the 45 students featured in the exhibition.

Uploading Work to Moodle

Moodle logoThis is a friendly reminder that students are expected to upload tasks to Moodle and not send it as an email to their teachers.

NTSDE would like tasks to be uploaded to Moodle because teachers can grade the work and give you feedback within the same place! You don't have to go searching through your emails. All you need to do is click on the upload link in Moodle and you will be able to see your uploaded files and a grade and feedback from your teacher.

The Learning By Distance course has instructions (both in video and written form) that shows you how to upload your tasks. You can access the instructions using the link below. Note - you will need to login to Moodle to view the page.
